Gunman Opens Fire at American Civic Association in Binghamton, NY, Several Believed Dead

A gunman entered the American Civic Association in Binghamton, NY around 10:30 a.m. ET on Friday with a high-powered rifle and opened fire, reportedly killing at least four people and injuring several more.

 

The FBI has sent a team of hostage negotiators to the scene to begin talks with the gunman, described as an Asian man in his 20s. Early reports had placed the number held inside at 41 but at least 20 have been released and five injured had been transported to Wilson Medical Center, one of them in critical condition.

 

Homes and buildings around the American Civic Association have been evacuated as police have surrounded the 16,000 square-foot building. The whereabouts of the gunman is unknown but it is believed he has barricaded himself inside the building with a number of hostages.
