Gunman Among 13 Confirmed Dead in Binghamton Shooting

Authorities have now confirmed that the gunman who walked into the American Civic Association building in Binghamton, NY with a high-powered rifle and opened fire ended the shooting spree by turning the gun on himself.

According to reports the attack at the ACA was carried out by one man, an Asian male believed to be in his 20s, and while two had been led from the building in handcuffs that is now thought to have been just a precaution carried out by police and they had nothing to do with the shooting.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Friday the shooter reportedly parked his car up against the back door of the building to block the exit and then walked through the front door of the ACA and began firing. The attack lasted for about three hours as police evacuated surrounding homes and buildings as they prepared for the hostage situation.

There have been reports that as many as 41 people were in the building when the attack began and several were seen exiting the building, leaving the gunman with about two dozen still inside, many hiding in closets and in the basement.

By 1:30 p.m. ET the hostage situation had ended as authorities entered the building and led several people out while also escorting two men in handcuffs. It is now believed those two had vaguely matched the description of the shooter and have since been cleared of suspicion.

While 13 people have been confirmed dead the number has been as high as 15 with 26 injuries.
