NBA Scores: Chicago Bulls Inch Closer to Locking Up Playoff Berth with Win Over New Jersey Nets

Ben Gordon scored 18 points, Joakim Noah added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Derrick Rose finished with 15 points and 5 assists as the Chicago Bulls (37-40) moved closer to locking up an Eastern Conference playoff berth with a 103-94 win over the New Jersey Nets (31-45) on Saturday.

Chicago took control of the game in the first quarter as they used a 10-2 run to built a 20-12 advantage and closed the opening frame with a 22-16 lead. The Bulls then opened the second with a 7-0 spurt to push their advantage to 29-16 and led by as many as 16 in the quarter before the Nets managed to cut their deficit to 54-44 at the break.

New Jersey trimmed the Bulls lead to five with 3:55 left in the third but a three-pointer from Tim Thomas and a pair of free-throws from Tyrus Thomas pushed Chicago’s lead back to ten. The Nets didn’t fold though and used an 8-0 run to get within 71-69 before Noah closed the frame with a pair from the line to give Chicago a four-point advantage heading into the fourth. In the final frame Brook Lopez gave the Nets their first lead of the game with a short hook for a 94-93 lead with 2:49 left on the clock but that would be the last bucket New Jersey would sink as the Bulls closed the game with an 11-0 run.

The Bulls shot 7-17 from beyond the three-point line and hit 32-38 from the foul-line. Chicago has a 2.5 game lead over the Charlotte Bobcats who currently sit ninth in the playoff chase.
