NCAA Final Four Scores: North Carolina Tar Heels get Past Villanova Wildcats for Title Game Ticket

Ty Lawson scored 22 points, dished out 8 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds, Wayne Ellington added 20 points and 9 boards and Tyler Hansbrough finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds as the North Carolina Tar Heels knocked off the Villanova Wildcats 83-69 on Saturday night to earn a spot in the national championship game on Monday night.

Villanova hung with the Tar Heels over the first five minutes of the opening half but Tyler Hansbrough started a 13-2 run that put UNC in front 23-10. The Wildcats managed to trim their deficit to 31-23 after Scottie Reynolds hit a triple with 8:59 left in the half only to see the Tar Heels go on a 9-0 spurt to push their advantage to 40-23 before settling for a 49-40 lead at the break.

The Wildcats opened the second half with a pair of buckets after a Deon Thompson free-throw to get within five points but then went on a four-minute scoreless streak as North Carolina went on a 9-0 run to push their advantage back up to 14 points. From that point on the Wildcats wouldn’t get any closer and after Wayne Ellington buried a three-pointer with 4:44 left on the clock the Tar Heels were up 75-57 and Villanova had no answer.

The Tar Heels finished 11-22 from beyond the three-point line and hit 40 percent from the floor while holding the Wildcats to just 32 percent shooting on the night.
