After a third night of riots in which hooded teens took to the streets of London looting stores, burning buildings and creating chaos, British Prime Minister David Cameron vowed to bring the “full force of the law” down upon those responsible.
"We will do everything necessary to restore order to Britain's streets and make them safe for the law-abiding," Cameron said. "To those responsible, you will feel the full force of the law, and if you are old enough to commit these crimes, you are old enough to take the consequences.
Cameron has already taken steps to put a stop to the violence. In addition to ordering about 16,000 police officers to crack down on protests, Cameron called for Parliament to meet on Tuesday to discuss the situation.
"People should be in no doubt that we will do everything necessary to restore order to Britain's streets and make them safe for the law-abiding," the prime minister added. "People should expect to see more, many more, arrests in the days to come.”
The riots, which initially began as peaceful protests, were sparked Saturday after Tottenham district police officers shot and killed a 29-year-old father of four during an anti-firearms mission. The violence and unrest quickly spread to nearby districts.
So far about 525 people have been arrested in connection with the riots. At least one person has died and numerous others have been injured.
