Fighter Jets Intercept Small Plane Invading U.S. Airspace

U.S. fighter jets intercepted a single-engine plane believed to have been stolen from an Ontario, Canada airport and forced the pilot to land on a rural highway in Ellsinore, Missouri, ending a six-hour ordeal which included a brief evacuation of Madison, Wisconsin as a precaution.

Police arrested Adam Dylan Lyon, 31, shortly after he landed the plane and according to officers the man had been hoping to be shot down by the military jets as a form of suicide.

Lyon allegedly stole the Cessna 172 from a flight school at Thunder Bay Airport in Ontario on Monday afternoon. He then embarked on a flight hat carried him over three U.S. states before finally being forced to land in the rural Missouri town.

Reports have indicated that Lyon had been having personal problems and that during the flight he refused to communicate with the fighter jets, hoping they would shoot him down.
