Late last year, I was in prayer seeking the Lord about goals and expectations for 2009. Of course, I had high aspirations as my new book, Letters from the Father’s Heart, was just published in November 2008. As I prayed and asked the Lord for direction for the new year, I heard Him speak to me very clearly about what was in store for 2009. He said to me that 2009 is the year of the open door.
What exactly does the year of the open door mean to us as believers? God has shown me that the words that He spoke to me do not just apply to me personally, but to every believer who will grab hold of those words and believe them. I want you to stop for a minute and think about doors that have been closed in your life. What things have you tried to accomplish that you just can’t seem to make happen? What areas have you struggled to move into freedom? Have you faced closed doors in your business or career? Your marriage? Your relationship with God? Maybe in ministry efforts, or in trying to share the Gospel with an unsaved friend or loved one? Every one of us has faced closed doors in various areas of our lives. The Lord has spoken to me that 2009 is the year that all of that changes, if you will step up to the plate and believe Him to change it.
I want you to imagine with me for a minute that you are standing in a hallway with a huge locked door in front of you. Behind that closed door lies the key to what you have been seeking, regardless of what it is. You know that if you can just get through that locked door you will launch out into everything that God has for you. For a long time you have been stuck looking at that door and you have had no way to get through it. You have prayed and believed, but the door has continued to remain shut. Now imagine the Father standing right there with you, and He says to you, son / daughter, this is the year of the open door. Now see your Heavenly Father reaching up and unlocking that closed door and opening it wide for you to step inside and walk into the fullness that He has laid out for you.
Begin now to earnestly seek the Father for His heart regarding the closed doors that you have been facing. Sometimes the Father wants a door that is closed to be open to you, but at other times He may want a door that appears to be open to be closed so that He can bring about something even better in your life. Ask Him to open every door that He wants open and to close every door that He wants shut. Begin to take the example above and apply it to every area of your life where He reveals to you that He wants the door to be open. Wherever there have been closed doors that you have faced, see your Heavenly Father opening that door for you. He will be faithful to perform the words that He has spoken, if you will simply believe Him to act on your behalf. Believe Him to open every door that He has for you this year. This is the year for you to walk through the doors that have been closed. Believe God to move powerfully on your behalf and no door can stand in your way.
