Joe Paterno to Return to Penn Stat Practice After Stay in Hospital

Legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno will return to practice today after being in the hospital as a result of an on-field collision. He underwent tests to determine the extent of the damage he sustained when wide receiver Devon Smith ran into him on Sunday.

Penn State confirmed that Paterno suffered a hairline fracture in his hip but would not require surgery for the mishap. He was released from the hospital on Tuesday morning and will be taking "precautionary measures" as he recovers.

Paterno will patrol today's practice on a golf cart as part of the measures to keep him safe but he still insists on "being in the middle of the action."

Paterno himself, who begins his 46th season coaching the Nittany Lions, said that "It's time for everyone to turn the attention to the team. We have a lot of hard work ahead in order to be as good as we think we can be."
