National Cornhole Day Set for Last Saturday in June

ACO establishes last Saturday in June as National Cornhole Day

Cornhole aficionados have a National Day in the sun thanks to Rocky Conteduca and the American Cornhole Organization. Last Spring Rocky, the Las Vegas, Nevada ACO Rep, came up with the idea of having a National Cornhole Day to celebrate the game of fun throughout the nation.

Rocky had a vision of cornhole players, on one designated day, setting up boards and bags in neighborhood parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, backyards, campsites, and parking lots, to bring two or more players together for a game of fun. What a wonderful world this would be, Rocky thought.

Rocky recognized the uniting power of friendship the boards and bags represented. He had seen the impact it had in his own neighborhood. Several years ago Rocky put together a neighborhood cornhole event .  Neighbors who wouldn’t say hi before the cornhole event were now text messaging on a daily basis. Neighbors who would never lend their lawnmower were not only lending their mower but cutting the grass as well. Halloween was no longer dinky candy bars but the big ones. Cornhole brought cum-bye-ya to the neighborhood.

Rocky thought wouldn’t that be special if cornhole could accomplish the same thing nationally. So he suggested a National Cornhole Day to the ACO Team Members. His suggestion was met with great enthusiasm. The last Saturday of June would be declared National Cornhole Day, Of course, a National Cornhole Day did make sense. What better way to bring this great nation back from its sense of despair. Cornhole would give it Hope.

Hope would not be found in Washington DC but rather found in backyards and parks with a friendly game of cornhole. Cornhole is so simple – a bag of corn thrown at a 6” hole 27’ away. Nothing complicated, cornhole does not require a government bailout.

With planning and effort  the ACO has made an all out pitch for June 27, 2009, to be the first National Cornhole Day.The day is intended to be spontaneous cornhole. Get boards and bags, set them up, and introduce this game of fun to a friend you haven’t met.

To kick off National Cornhole Day the ACO is planning a Hole Headz Fest the weekend of June 26, 27, 28 in Carrolton, Kentucky. The HoleHeadz Fest will be a gathering of cornhole enthusiasts at the river. Carrolton is a perfect setting. With camping, music, cornhole games, and family fun, the Hole Headz Fest is sure to be a great kick off for National Cornhole Day.
