A GroupOn promotion in San Diego has netted over 60 entries into the U.S. Putting Tour National Championship in less than two days, with one more day left for the promotion to run.
The putting championship is open to all golfers over the age of 12, which has made it an appealing offer to golfers throughout the county of San Diego. In addition, the golf tournament guarantees a first prize of $10,000 in cash to the winner.
The winner of the $10,000 cash prize also earns a spot in a 2012 World Putting Tour Championships event, which will feature a cash prize of $100,000. Amateur golfers in the U.S. Putting Tour Championship compete for merchandise prizes up to $750 in retail value.
"The GroupOn promotion has been very effective in helping us reach out to golfers throughout San Diego," said USPT president, Jim Hartley. "Of course, golfers from anywhere in the U.S. or around the world, for that matter, can enter the Championship directly."
Hartley explained that golfers interested in knowing more about the tournament and wanting to enter the Championship can go to the
putting tour website to enter online. He said that the tournament can accommodate well over 200 entrants because there are six days of Round 1 play on which a golfer can choose to play.
Seventy-two golfers will advance from Round 1 to play in Round 2 on Sunday morning, October 2, which will consist of 36 holes of putting. Of those 72 golfers, the low 24 scores will move on to Round 3 on Sunday afternoon for another 36 holes. The 72-hole scores from Sunday will decide the winner and final results.
Mr. Hartley indicated that there are over 100 golfers now entered into the
putting championship. He said that, in addition to the GroupOn deal, all golfers competing in the
putting competition will receive savings on hotels, golf and shopping.
