Day
two of the 2009 Masters at Augusta National played havoc for many of the world’s
top golfers but Anthony Kim appeared unfazed by the dramatic turnaround and
fired a 7-under 65 to overcome a 3-over 75 on Thursday.
Appearing
in his first Masters the 24-year-old hit eleven birdies on the day, making up
for a bogey and a double-bogey, and now sits at 4-under through 36, just five
strokes behind Kenny Perry and Chad Campbell.
It
was a strong day for Perry as well as he finished 5-under 67 to share the lead
with Campbell after 36. After firing a 65 in his opening round it looked like
Campbell was ready to run away with the Masters as he struck four birdies in the
first ten holes but struggled over the final stretch to finish at 2-under 70
for the day.
Tiger
Woods finished on a down note for the second straight day as his bogey on 18
left him even on the day and he now sits 2-under heading into Saturday, seven
strokes back.
Among
the casualties on Day Two were Larry Mize who finished with a 76 after posting
a 67 on Thursday, Hunter Mahan was 3-over for a 75 after a 66 in day one and
Sean O’Hair hit a 76 following a 68 on Thursday. Stewart Cink will likely miss the
cut after struggling to hit a 78 on Friday after a solid 69 on Thursday. It was
no better for 2007 Green Jacket winner Zach Johnson who followed his opening
round 70 with a dreadful 80 on Friday.
