2009 Masters Leader Board Day Three: Kenny Perry Shares Lead with Angel Cabrera at 11-Under, Chad Campbell Falls Back Two Strokes

After Day Two of the Masters put an end too many golfers’ hopes of a Green Jacket those who remained in the chase on Day Three at Augusta National had their chance to make a move and Angel Cabrera took full advantage as he fired a 3-under 69 to share the 54-hole lead with Kenny Perry at 11-under 205.

Perry had been three under through ten holes but bogies on 11 and 12 opened the door for Cabrera and the Argentinean birdied 15 and 17 to finish his day 3-under.

For Chad Campbell Day Three was another sign that things may be slipping away. After a dominant Day One in which he fired a 7-under 65 he has hit a 70 and now a 72 and is currently two strokes back and he is feeling the pressure of those just behind him.

One of those guys just behind Campbell is Jim Furyk who rebounded from an awful 74 on Friday to strike a 4-under 68 on Saturday and climb back into contention. Furyk is now three strokes back and fully capable of capturing his first Green Jacket. That 4-under was matched by Steve Stricker who has now put together rounds of 72, 69 and 68 to sit four back.

Rebounding from a disastrous Day Two that would have ended the tournament for many golfers Sean O’Hair hit a 4-under 68 on Day Three to get back into the Top 10 on the leader board. O’Hair’s 76 on Friday had erased a solid 68 on Day One but he could be a legitimate threat on Sunday despite being seven strokes back.

Tiger Woods will be hoping seven strokes isn’t too much to overcome as the four-time Masters champ remains in the same position after hitting his second 2-under in three days. His tournament was all but over after he was 1-over through 11 but he managed to close with three birdies to stay alive.
