Moldova’s Constitutional Court has ordered a recount following the results of last week’s parliamentary elections but opposition parties have dismissed the efforts, calling them an attempt to legitimize a fraudulent vote.
The ruling Communist party collected nearly 50 percent of the vote; a number has been contested by many Moldovans. Following the results thousands of protesters took to the street and on Tuesday those demonstrators broke into government buildings and left them gutted.
While the president of the Constitutional Court has ordered a recount within nine days opposition leaders have called for new elections.
