Thailand Under State of Emergency as Soldiers and Tanks Move into Bangkok

One day after protesters managed to halt a major Asia summit Thailand has fallen under a state of emergency and Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has vowed to restore order through “tough measures” if need be.

The state of emergency declaration was implemented as a means of clearing streets of large crowds but protesters continue to roam and have blocked numerous roadways and broken into government buildings. While the PM has ordered the streets cleared the military has yet to move against the large crowds.

Protesters have been calling for Vejjajiva’s resignation and those protesters have been encouraged to attack the PM and his government at every opportunity. The aggressive behavior from the protesters has led Vejjajiva to move tanks and soldiers into Bangkok as a means of ensuring security.
