The body of a missing University of Florida student studying in an over-seas program in Namibia has been found in a river that he was last seen attempting to swim across.
Thad Hammon Owens, 27, had been in Namibia as part of his school’s three-month wildlife ecology program. On Thursday he was seen trying to swim across the Kuene River when he was caught up in the strong current.
A search team comprised of local villagers and a private rescue team began searching for Owens on Thursday but feared he may have been attacked by crocodiles that populate the river. Late Saturday night the family of Owens released a statement that said his body had been found on the river.
