A
Dutch couple that had been held hostage by armed tribesman in a mountainous
region of Yemen has been released.
It
has been nearly two weeks since Jan Hoogendoorn and his
wife Heleen Janszen
were kidnapped as they were driving in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa. They were
taken into a rugged region about 55 miles southeast of Sanaa where they were
being held.
According
to reports tribal intermediaries were able to negotiate an agreement that
resulted in the release of the two but the details of that agreement have not
been released.
Hoogendoorn
had appeared via video broadcast on Dutch television on Sunday where he
appealed to the government not to use violence as a means of securing their release.
