Music legend Phil Spector was found guilty Monday of
second degree murder in the shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson.
A jury turned in a guilty verdict in a Los Angeles
courtroom shortly after 5 p.m. The six men and six women began deliberating on
March 26.
Clarkson, 40, was found dead in the foyer of Spector’s
home from a gunshot wound through the roof of her mouth on February 3, 2003.
A mistrial was declared in Spector’s September 2007
trial. Jurors deliberated for 15 days but were unable to reach a verdict.
Spector claimed that Clarkson’s death was an “accidental
suicide” and alleged she had kissed and gun and accidentally shot herself.
Prosecutors argued that Clarkson bought shoes the day of her death, something a
suicidal woman would not do. They also had five other women testify they had
been threatened with guns by Spector. His driver also testified that he saw the
music producer holding the gun and saying, ‘I think I killed somebody.”
Spector faces up to life in prison.
