NBA Scores: LeBron James Scores 37 Points as Cleveland Cavaliers Drop Indian Pacers to Lock Up Best Record

LeBron James scored 37 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 5 assists, Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 16 points and 10 boards and Mo Williams finished with 18 points and 8 dimes as the Cleveland Cavaliers (66-15) knocked off the Indiana Pacers (35-46) 117-109 on Monday night to lock up the NBA’s best record and secure home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Pacers hung with the Cavs through the first quarter as Danny Granger scored 9 of his game-high 38 points in the frame and Indiana had a 27-26 advantage heading into the second. Indiana managed to hold that lead and were up 41-38 when Cleveland made their move. A quick 7-0 spurt gave the Cavs a 45-41 lead and then after Granger hit a layup to pull the Pacers to within 45-43 with 4:01 left in the half  Cleveland went on a 17-4 run to build a 62-47 cushion at the break.

That lead held for much of the third quarter but the Pacers eventually made their move and after Brandon Rush completed a three-point play with 1:39 left in the frame Indiana was within 84-80. Darnell Jackson stopped the bleeding for the Cavs with a tip-in and then Daniel Gibson buried a triple to push the advantage back to nine before they settled for a 91-84 lead going into the fourth. While the Pacers were able to get within five on a couple of occasions the Cavs managed to hold them at bay and when Mo Williams buried a three-pointer with 1:29 left to push the lead to ten the game was on ice.

Cleveland is already set to meet the Detroit Pistons in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs but with their win on Monday night they locked up home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, meaning they would have the advantage in the NBA championship series.
