Boston
Red Sox ace Josh Beckett has been suspended six games and fined an undisclosed
amount after Major League Baseball determined the hard-throwing right hander
intentionally threw at the head of Los Angeles Angels’ Bobby Abreau last week.
Beckett’s
pitch led to both benches clearing and several players being ejected, Beckett
was not one of them. While he wasn’t
tossed from the game Beckett was said to have used “aggressive actions”
following the pitch that encouraged the benches to clear.
In
addition to suspending Beckett MLB also suspended Angels hitting coach Mickey
Hatcher one game and issued a fine. Angels manager Mike Scioscia and players
Torii Hunter and Justin Speier each received fines.
