A
French warship monitoring the waters off the coast of Kenya as part of an
European Union piracy patrol have arrested eleven suspected pirates after
tracking a “mother ship.”
According
to reports the French warship Nivose took notice of the “mother ship” on
Tuesday and on Wednesday launched an aggressive assault that led to the detention
of the pirates.
News
of the pirate detentions come just hours after a U.S. merchant ship carrying
food aid to Mombasa, Kenya came under attack by pirates. The Liberty Sun
managed to evade the pirates but sustained some damage from rocket-propelled
grenades and automatic fire.
The
success of the French warship Nivose comes just days after a U.S. warship, the USS
Bainbridge, killed three pirates during a hostage standoff off the coast of
Somalia.
