French Warship Captures Eleven Pirates Off Coast of Kenya

A French warship monitoring the waters off the coast of Kenya as part of an European Union piracy patrol have arrested eleven suspected pirates after tracking a “mother ship.”

According to reports the French warship Nivose took notice of the “mother ship” on Tuesday and on Wednesday launched an aggressive assault that led to the detention of the pirates.

News of the pirate detentions come just hours after a U.S. merchant ship carrying food aid to Mombasa, Kenya came under attack by pirates. The Liberty Sun managed to evade the pirates but sustained some damage from rocket-propelled grenades and automatic fire.

The success of the French warship Nivose comes just days after a U.S. warship, the USS Bainbridge, killed three pirates during a hostage standoff off the coast of Somalia.
