The
eleven Somali pirates captured by a French warship on Wednesday are now being
taken to Kenya to stand trial.
All
eleven pirates were captured by the Nivose, a French warship operating as part
of a larger EU force that has been assembled to fight piracy in the area. The
pirates will be tried under an agreement that had been reached by Kenya and the
EU.
The
United States and Britain have also formed agreements with Kenya that will in
essence allow Nairobi to act as an international tribunal for pirate crimes.
While
the international community has vowed to step up their efforts against pirates
operating off the Somali coast the pirate attacks on passing vessels has
continued.
