NBA Playoffs Preview: Cleveland Cavaliers Earn Top Seed in Eastern Conference, to Face Detroit Pistons in Opening Round
Wednesday
night marked the end of the NBA regular season and set the stage for the playoffs
which will begin on Saturday. For the Cleveland Cavaliers, owners of the best
record in the NBA, the playoffs offer the latest opportunity to finally capture
that elusive NBA title while their opponents, the Detroit Pistons, look for
their second in five years.
Led
by MVP frontrunner LeBron James the Cavaliers managed to run through the regular
season losing back-to-back games just twice and never losing more than three
games in a seven game stretch. After dropping their first game against Detroit
the Cavaliers took the final three games of their season series and are a clear
favorite to take the best-of-seven opening round series.
The
fact that Detroit is in the playoffs is surprising enough. At one point in the
season they were 21-11 but they endured several brutal stretches in which they
dropped five straight, eight straight and over their final 18 games they
dropped 12 including their last three games.
