Drug Treatment Costs Still Wearing on Economy

While the economy starts to recover the amount of monies paid for drug rehab is exhausting.

The economic scene in our country is the worst it’s been in years. And even with the recent release of President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus plan we are not out of the woods yet; especially with the amount of tax payer dollars that are going back into the economy to pay for things like drug abuse, incarceration costs of drug users and drug rehab programs.

According to the most recent statistics from the Office of the National Drug Control Policy, the cost to the economy because of drug abuse in 2002 was $181 billion. And this figure was estimated to increase annually at 5.3%. The figure includes the costs of loss of productivity as a result of drug addiction, as well as health and crime consequences.

Most addicted persons in the United States will often spend time in several different drug treatment programs with little to no results or end up incarcerated and costing the state money, sometimes for years. In order to handle this effective drug rehab programs need to be implemented across the country that achieve a very high success rate for permanent sobriety.

One such program that does this on a continual basis the Narconon® program. For more than 40 years Narconon rehabilitation centers have achieved a success rate of more than 70% for permanent sobriety.   This is through the use a drug-free withdrawal method, sauna detoxification program as well as a series of life skills courses that are developed to improve the addicted person and help him to become a responsible, ethical, contributing member of society.

With the current economic situation, our country has no choice but to implement programs that do achieve results. This is something, will actually end up returning resources into the economy instead of taking from it.
