A small twin-engine plane crashed into a house this
morning shortly after taking off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.
A Cessna 421 took off around 11:15 a.m. Soon after, the
pilot reported trouble with the aircraft and turned around to return to the
airport. It went down near Andrews Avenue at 5240 NW First Ave. “Shortly after
it got in the air, it did report trouble to the tower. The tower cleared it to
come back and land. In trying to make it back, that’s when it went down,” says
airport spokesman Chaz Adams.
The pilot was the only person on board. It is unclear if
he survived. Three people lived in the home the plane hit. None were home at
the time of the crash.
The name and age of the pilot has not been released. The plane
was owned by Sebring Air Charter. The cause of the crash is still unclear.
