Stephen A. Smith No Longer Working as ESPN NBA Analyst, Future Uncertain

Stephen A. Smith, the popular NBA analyst for ESPN, will not return to the sports network, according to reports Friday.

Smith could not reach a contract agreement with ESPN, according to The Big Lead, and will no longer work for the network in six weeks.

In 2007, his ESPN show "Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith" was cancelled, and a year later, his ESPN radio show followed suit. Since then, he has been primarily an NBA analyst on ESPN and a guest panelist on "First Take".

Smith began his meteoric rise with the Philadelphia Inquirer in 1994, serving as a beat reporter for the Philadelphia 76ers, NBA columnist and, eventually, a general sports columnist. Prior to that, he wrote for the Winston-Salem Journal, the Greensboro News and Record and the New York Daily News.

Smith's brash demeanor and bravado has made him one of the most recognizable NBA analysts in the nation. Due to the recent decision by ESPN, Smith's future is uncertain. He still maintains a blog at StephenA.com
