Damon Weaver, 10-Year Old Reporter, Accepts Full Scholarship to Albany State

Damon Weaver, a 10-year old budding TV personality, has been offered a full scholarship to Albany State University in Georgia and accepted it Friday, according to reports.

Weaver, a fifth-grader at K.E. Cunningham/Canal Point Elementary in Pahokee, FL, said that the scholarship now removes stress about his future. "I'm really happy," Weaver said in an announcement by the school district. "I didn't know how I was going to be able to afford college, and now this is a big relief to my mother and my family."

Last week, Weaver was featured on "20/20" as he reported about gun violence in his Pahokee hometown. He has also been on Fox News, MSNBC, ABC, and "Larry King Live". He has interviewed Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton and Dwayne Wade, and earned press credentials for the Inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Albany State, a historically Black university, will also offer Weaver free summer sessions through middle school and high school.

In a letter to Damon offering a full, four-year scholarship, Albany State University President Everett Freeman wrote: "In life we do many things, but to realize a life goal at such a young age is truly a wonderful accomplishment. I am sure your family, friends and your school are very proud of you. We, too, at Albany State University have followed your young career and share the pride with citizens of South Florida."
