University of Miami in Hot Water After Booster Report

So far the University of Miami Hurricanes have not suspended any of their football players for their preseason practices. Suspensions could be coming for players on the heels of revelations that a Miami booster, currently serving prison time for masterminding a Ponzi scheme, gave 72 players illegal benefits.

Coach Al Golden said, "Until we hear of an infraction or that we did break a rule, everybody is practicing. If it is determined that somebody broke rules, than certainly that will be first dealt with from a university standpoint from an eligibility standpoint."

The booster, Nevin Shapiro, told Yahoo! Sports that he gave money, cars, yacht trips, jewelry, televisions and more to players that include some current starters. He also claims that he paid for night club trips, sex parties, meals and at least one abortion.

Golden said that a similar experience has prepared him for this situation. When he became the head coach of Temple he had to deal with a previous regime's transgressions that reduced his number of scholarships to 54 and he feels confident that his ability to get through that will help him in the current situation.

The coach did say that this information should have been given to him prior to his accepting the job if university officials knew a possible investigation was coming. "If they knew it was percolating, I believe they did have a responsibility to tell me. But look, I'm happy here. My wife is happy here. We've got great kids on this team."
