NFL Supplemental Draft Postponed

The NFL supplemental draft, for players who were ineligible for the regular draft, that was scheduled to take place on Wednesday has been postponed. Team have not been told a new date for the draft to take place.

The most likely cause for the postponement is the eligibility issue surrounding former Ohio State quarterback Terrel Pryor. Pryor was planning on returning to the school when the spring draft took place but in light of an NCAA investigation and the firing of Jim Tressel he decided to try and gain eligibility in the later draft.

The rules that decide draft eligibility say that a player who petitions for inclusion in the draft has to be approved by the League office and his name given to the different teams. Pryor told the NCAA about money and gifts he received from his mentor in May. Because these infractions would affect his ability for the 2011 season his lawyer is arguing that he is eligible for inclusion in the draft.

So far the draft eligible players are former UGA running back Caleb King, former Northern Illinois safety Tracy Wilson, former Western Carolina cornerback Torez Jones, former Lindenwood University defensive end Keenan Mace, and former North Carlina defensive end Michael McAdoo.
