Warehouse Explosion at Chinese Mine Leaves at least 18 Dead, Toll Expected to Rise

A warehouse packed with explosives and detonators for a mine in China’s Hunan province ignited into a massive fireball, killing at least 18 miners and completely destroying the three-story building.

The death toll is expected to climb significantly as the search for survivors continues.

Investigators are now looking for the owners of the mine and have yet to determine whether or not the explosives and detonators had been bought legally.

China has a long history of mining disasters and they are widely considered the deadliest in the world.
