The #3-seeded San Antonio Spurs (54-28) will be hosting the #6-seeded Dallas Mavericks (50-32) in the opening game of their best-of-seven series on Saturday.
San Antonio has rattled off four straight wins heading into their match-up with the Mavericks but they could be some trouble without Manu Ginobili. While they still have Tim Duncan and Tony Parker to pace their offensive attack the absence of a perimeter shooter could cause serious problems. Even Duncan’s health remains a question but an experienced bench could play to their advantage in the series.
The Spurs biggest problem could be a familiar one, Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavericks superstar has long been a source of trouble for San Antonio’s defense and he has been playing solid, either leading the team or tied for the lead in scoring in each of the last 15 games. Dallas split their series with San Antonio 2-2 during the regular season. Their late season push moved them up to the six-seed and with strong play from Jason Terry, Josh Howard and Jason Kidd the Mavs are one of the hottest teams heading into the postseason.
Game one is set to tip off at 8:00 p.m. ET.
