NBA Scores Eastern Conference: Chicago Bulls Shock Boston Celtics in OT, Take Early Series Lead

Derrick Rose scored 36 points and dished out 11 assists, Joakim Noah added 11 points and 17 rebounds and Ben Gordon finished with 20 points as the Chicago Bulls went into Boston and upset the Celtics 105-103 in overtime to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series on Saturday.

Boston got 12 points from Rajon Rondo in the opening frame but solid play from Rose and Gordon countered the Celtics point guard and the game was knotted at 28-28 heading into the second. With the game tied at 38-38 the Bulls made their run as they went on an 11-2 spurt that put them in front 49-40 before settling for a 53-44 advantage at the break.

The Celtics trimmed their deficit to three early in the third quarter but the Bulls managed to push their lead back to 67-60 before Boston went on an 8-0 run to grab their first lead since early in the second frame and that one-point advantage held at the end of the quarter after Rondo hit a runner at the buzzer. Chicago looked like they were grabbing control of the game with 4:33 left in the fourth as Gordon put them in front 84-79 with a three-pointer but the Celtics responded with another 8-0 run to grab an 87-84 lead with just under three minutes left. Both teams remained tight through the final minutes of the game and Rose put the Bulls up 97-96 with 9 seconds left but Paul Pierce managed to draw a foul with 2 seconds on the clock and was in position to give Boston the lead but after sinking his first from the stripe he missed his second and the game moved into overtime.

In the extra frame Tyrus Thomas provided the offense for the Bulls and his jumper with 50 seconds left put Chicago in front 105-103 and Boston failed to hit another shot.

The Bulls shot 42 percent from the floor on the day and hit 20-22 from the foul-line while the Celtics managed to hit just 39 percent from the floor.
