NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference Schedule: Atlanta Hawks to Host Dwyane Wade and Miami Heat in Game One on Sunday

The #4-seed Atlanta Hawks look to build off of last year’s effort against the Boston Celtics in the first round of the NBA playoffs and they have the match-up they wanted as the #5-seed Miami Heat come to town in their opener of a best-of-seven series.

Atlanta posted a 3-1 mark against Miami in their regular season meetings and have always found a way to keep Dwyane Wade at bay while getting plenty of offense from their superstar Joe Johnson. While the Hawks have flown under the radar for much of the season they certainly have the pieces to challenge any team. The Hawks will look for Johnson to lead but need support from Mike Bibby, Al Horford, Marvin Williams and Josh Smith. An often overlooked aspect of the Hawks is their bench and with Flip Murray and Maurice Evans capable of putting up big numbers they could easily be the difference.

It’s no secret that the Heat go as Wade goes and if they are to have a shot at Atlanta the MVP candidate will need to have an incredible series. That has been a problem for Wade as his slashing style hasn’t always worked against the Hawks who have used the defensive presence of Horford and Smith to minimize his drives to the bucket. Miami will need to find an offensive answer on the perimeter if they are to have any chance against Atlanta.

Game one is set to tip off at 8:00 p.m. ET.
