Learn The Signs that Fido is Fighting Arthritis

The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television Interviews Dr. Lyn Huffaker

The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television is educating viewers about the signs of arthritis in their dogs.  Dr. Lyn Huffaker, the Manager of Special Projects for the DVM brand at Teva Animal Health, discusses the important issue of canine osteoarthritis and the supplements that can help ease their discomfort.  The segment airs April 28th and May 7th, or view it at www.thebalancingact/DVM. The Balancing Act can be seen weekdays at 7AM ET/PT on Lifetime Television.

“Arthritis often affects dogs as they age, but joint problems can also affect younger dogs due to injury, obesity or even normal daily activity,” explains Dr. Huffaker.  “Larger dogs such as Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Mastiffs, Rottweilers and Danes are often more susceptible, but miniature poodles and other small breeds can also be vulnerable due to knee and back problems.”

According to Dr. Huffaker, all dog owners, no matter their pup’s breed or size, should be on the look out for changes in their dog’s behavior including:

·         Less playful or less active

·         Limping or signs of stiffness after play

·         Lagging behind on walks

·         Trouble getting up and active after rest

·         Problems with stairs

·         Difficulty jumping and running

“Act early and develop an action plan for your pet’s health,” says Dr. Huffaker. “Your veterinarian is the best adviser to help keep your pet healthy, happy and enjoying life."

If you notice any of the above signs, Dr, Huffaker advises consulting your veterinarian and asking about the D-V-M brand of nutraceuticals, including PhyCox-JS, offering anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants to help protect joints from pain due to daily activity, and 3V HP, a highly concentrated source of Omega-3 fatty acids for your pet. “America has a love affair with their dogs,” says Doug Campbell, Executive VP of Programming for BrandStar Entertainment, the producers of The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television. “But sometimes it’s difficult to know when our beloved pet needs our help, the lessons that Dr. Huffaker imparts will make us more aware of how to be a better health care advocate for our best friend!”
