NBA Scores Eastern Conference Playoffs: Atlanta Hawks Embarrass Miami Heat to Take Game One in Series

Josh Smith scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Mike Bibby added 10 points and 9 assists and Joe Johnson finished with 15 points as the Atlanta Hawks crushed the Miami Heat 90-64 on Sunday to take game one of their best-of-seven playoff series.

Miami actually hung with Atlanta in the first quarter as Dwyane Wade scored 11 points in the opening frame to keep them within 24-21 heading into the second. Things began to unravel for the Heat as Atlanta used a 13-4 run to push their advantage to 43-31 and over the final four minutes of the half the Hawks closed with a 14-4 run to move up 59-39 at the break.

Things didn’t get much better for the Heat in the third as the Hawks never allowed Wade to get going and Miami had no other weapons. Atlanta continued to use a balanced offensive attack as they had five players get on the scoreboard and by the end of the frame they still had a 76-57 lead. Miami never showed any signs of life in the final quarter as they went nearly eight minutes without a point and managed just seven points in the frame to finish with 64, their lowest total all season long.

Atlanta dominated every area of the game as they hit 46 percent from the floor compared to 36 percent for the Heat, dealt out 23 assists compared to just12 for Miami and outrebounded the Heat 50-35 for the blowout win.
