Venezuelan authorities have launched a massive search for 8 soldiers still missing after Wednesday evening’s helicopter crash in the Caribbean Sea. Firefighters and Navy divers are participating in the search effort, according to state media reports.
The Bell 412 was carrying 10 soldiers when it went down. Venezuela’s minister of communication said the body of the pilot has been recovered and one soldier was rescued from the water. The cause of the crash remains unclear and is under investigation. The chopper was traveling to Maiquetia from Carupano when the accident occurred.
Anzoategui state Gov. Tarek William Saab offered his "deepest condolences" to the family of the dead pilot.
