The
Detroit Pistons never entertained the idea that they would stop LeBron James in
Game 1 of their playoff series with the Cleveland Cavaliers but they were certainly
hoping to do more than what they did as the MVP frontrunner scored 38 points,
grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 7 assists in a 102-84 blasting on Saturday.
If the Pistons are to do anything in their best-of-seven series they will have
to find a better way of slowing down LeBron and they’ll have their chance on
Tuesday as the two teams meet for Game 2 in Cleveland.
With
just two losses at home all year the Cavaliers are heavy favorites to advance
to the NBA championship series but they appear to be grounded in the moment and
focused on the game at hand. It wasn’t only LeBron who torched the Pistons as
Delonte West and Joe Smith both played solid games and defensively the Cavs
limited Tayshaun Prince and Richard Hamilton to just 8-21 shooting for 19
points.
Detroit
will likely go to a more physical approach on Tuesday night, possibly forcing LeBron
to the foul-line more often and sending a message. Whatever the Pistons do they
better figure out the right formula or they could see their season end in four
games.
Tip-off
is set for 8:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday night.
