NBA Playoffs Western Conference Schedule: Los Angeles Lakers in Position to Bury Utah Jazz in Series

If Game 1 was any indication of how the Western Conference playoff series is to unfold then the Utah Jazz could be in for a long night as the Los Angeles Lakers dominated every facet of the opener and showed no signs of letting up.

Los Angeles effectively ended the opener in the first half as they built a 22-point advantage by halftime and while the Jazz managed to get within single digits in the second half the Lakers kept them at bay and never saw their lead threatened. Perhaps the most discouraging aspect of the game for the Jazz was that Kobe Bryant wasn’t playing out of his mind. While Kobe scored 24 points and dished out 8 assists he had plenty of help from a hot shooting Trevor Ariza and a dominant performance from Paul Gasol.

Much has been made about the Lakers bench and it paid off in a big way on Sunday as they provided plenty of support for the starting five. Defensively the Lakers remained intense and if Utah is to have any chance on Tuesday they’ll need to find more success on the perimeter as they hit just 39 percent of their shots and the majority of their buckets came from Carlos Boozer down low.

Utah will have to avoid a slow start in LA or they could find themselves not only fighting the Lakers but a home crowd that saw their team post a Western Conference best 36-5 record at home.

Tip-off for Tuesday night’s game is set for 10:30 p.m. ET.
