NBA Scores Eastern Conference Playoffs: Cleveland Cavaliers Hold Off Late Charge From Detroit Pistons, Take 2-0 Series Lead

LeBron James scored 29 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out 6 assists, Mo Williams added 21 points and 7 assists and Delonte West finished with 20 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers built a big lead after three quarters and then held on to beat the Detroit Pistons 94-82 on Tuesday night to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series.

Cleveland started fast as they jumped to a 12-2 advantage in the opening frame but a 10-2 run from the Pistons trimmed the advantage to 14-12, The Cavs regrouped as Delonte West buried a jumper, LeBron hit one of two from the line and Daniel Gibson hit a three-pointer to push the lead back to 20-12 and by the end of the quarter they were up 23-14. The lead was extended to as many as 17 in the second quarter but the Cavaliers had to settle for a 46-32 lead at the break.

The Pistons stayed within striking distance over the first four minutes of the third as they trailed by 11 but the Cavaliers quickly gained some breathing room and after Mo Williams buried a triple with 4:26 on the clock the advantage was 64-46 and when West hit a three-pointer at the end of the frame Cleveland looked to have the game wrapped up with a 77-50 lead heading into the fourth.

It didn’t look like it would get any better for the Pistons early in the fourth as the Cavs still had a 25 point lead with 9:27 on the clock but Detroit then used a 14-0 run in just over two minutes to get within 82-71 and then pulled to within 84-77 on a jumper from Antonio McDyess with 3:50 left but Cleveland hit six straight free-throws and Mo Williams scored on a layup to put the game out of reach with 2;18 left in the game.

Detroit actually hit more shots from the field in the game but Cleveland was 32-43 from the foul-line while the Pistons were 13-16.
