NBA Scores Western Conference Playoffs: Brandon Roy Races Portland Trail Blazers Past Houston Rockets to Even Series

Brandon Roy scored 42 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, LaMarcus Aldridge added 27 points and 12 boards and Steve Blake finished with 10 points and 5 assists as the Portland Trail Blazers managed to fight off the Houston Rockets 107-103 on Tuesday night to even their best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series 1-1.

Houston came out looking determined to grab a 2-0 series lead as Ron Artest was hitting from all over the court and his 15th point of the frame gave the Rockets a 24-18 advantage with 2:15 left in the quarter but the Blazers had an answer and it came in the form of Roy as he hit a three-pointer with two seconds on the clock to give Portland a 28-26 lead heading into the second. Houston managed to reclaim the lead in the second as a 7-0 spurt put them in front 42-39 but the Rockets closed the half with a 6-0 run to take a 53-51 lead into the break.

The opening minutes of the third belonged to the Rockets as they used a 12-3 run to grab a 63-56 lead but the Blazers countered with a 10-0 run to move back in front 66-63. That lead was extended to seven points before the Rockets closed the frame on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 72-72 with just the fourth quarter left. Portland managed to grab a quick five point lead in the opening minute but Houston stayed close and eventually moved in front and had an 89-87 lead after Yao Ming hit a pair of free-throws with 5:00 minutes left in the game. Greg Oden tied the game with a bucket and Blake put them in front 91-89 with 4:01. Aaron Brooks had a chance to tie the game but hit just one of two from the foul line and then Travis Outlaw hit a jumper to push the Blazers lead back to three. After Brooks and Von Wafer missed three-pointers Roy came down and buried a triple to push the advantage to 96-90 and then Outlaw scored on an open court dunk following a Rockets turnover to go up 98-90 with 1:01 left in the game. Portland then buried their free-throws to fight off a flurry of threes from Aaron Brooks to seal the game and even the series.
