William Refrigerator Perry Hospitalized with Guillain Barre Syndrome

Former Chicago Bears star William Perry, also known as The Refrigerator, has been hospitalized in South Carolina for a flare-up of Guillain Barre Syndrome, a rare disorder in which the immune system attacks nerves in the body causing severe weakness.

Perry is in serious condition but is expected to recover. He has been in the hospital for more than a week.

“They (the hospital) were making sure he was in pretty good health before they started treating him,” says Perry’s nephew, Purnell Perry.

The 46-year-old was diagnosed with the chronic disease last June and was hospitalized for five months.

Perry played in the NFL for 10 seasons. He played for the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles and London Monarchs.
