Matt
Ryan may have just seen his second year as the starting quarterback for the Atlanta
Falcons get a lot easier as the club announced they had landed tight end Tony
Gonzalez from the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2010 second round draft pick.
Gonzalez,
a 10-time Pro Bowler, offers Ryan yet another weapon on offense as the tight
end hauled in 96 receptions last year for 1,058 yards and 10 TDs. The Falcons
top tight end last year, Justin Peelle, had 15 receptions for 159 yards and 2
touchdowns.
The
33-year-old Gonzalez owns the NFL record among tight ends for receptions, 916;
yards receiving, 10,940; and TDs, 76.
With
the addition of Gonzalez on the offensive end the Falcons will likely
concentrate their efforts during the 2009 NFL Draft on selecting defensive
players.
