NBA Scores Western Conference Playoffs: Dallas Mavericks Blast San Antonio Spurs to Grab Series Advantage
Dirk Nowitzki scored 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, Josh Howard added 17 points and 8 boards and Jason Kidd finished with 6 assists and 8 rebounds as the Dallas Mavericks blasted the San Antonio Spurs 88-67 on Thursday night to grab a 2-1 lead in their Western Conference playoff series.
Dallas set the tone early as they opened the first quarter on a 10-2 run and quickly pushed the lead to 19-7 after a three-pointer from Jose Juan Barea with 5:54 on the clock. Tony Parker managed to get the Spurs to within 23-16 after hitting one of two from the foul line with 1:46 on the clock but by the end of the frame the Mavs were up 27-16. San Antonio stayed within the 8-12 point range through the opening minutes of the second but Dallas put the Spurs in a huge hole after a 12-0 run that pushed their advantage to 46-25 before settling with a 46-30 lead at the break.
Needing to come out and cut into the Mavericks lead the Spurs did just the opposite as an 11-2 run from Dallas put San Antonio in a 57-32 hole. The Spurs were awful throughout the third quarter, scoring just 12 points in the frame and at one point trailed 73-38. By the fourth quarter both teams had gone to their reserves as the game had already been decided.
The Spurs hit just 32 percent from the floor with Tim Duncan finishing 2-9 for 4 points and Tony Parker 5-14 for 12 points.
