Academic Summer Camp Sets Students Up For Success

Joyous. Engaging. Challenging. These three adjectives describe the core beliefs of Quantum Learning Network’s SuperCamp, a 10-day academic summer camp for students age 9 to 19. “That’s the way it should be for all kids,” says Quantum Learning Network president Bobbi DePorter.

Breaking away from the all too common, ‘Teach and Test Curriculum’ that many schools and school districts adhere to across the country, SuperCamp is dedicated to teaching students how to learn. The program relies on eight core values, called the 8 Keys of Excellence: Integrity, Failure Leads to Success, Speak with Good Purpose, This Is It, Commitment, Ownership, Flexibility, and Balance.  These values are taught at SuperCamp to instill students with life skills such as confidence, motivation, and healthy relationships that they can use, not just in school, but for the rest of their lives. By focusing not only on content, but on ways in which to effectively learn the content, SuperCamp is able to efficiently and confidently set students up for academic success.

SuperCamp participants come to the
academic summer camps from all 50 states, over 30 countries, public high schools, private high schools, and even home schools. The average SuperCamp student falls within the B to C grade range, yet even A students and F students will build success through the 10-day program.

SuperCamp builds connections between staff and students by building relationships and instilling strong communication skills. With the staff’s ideal of listening more and talking less, students are motivated to communicate more openly and freely about the issues affecting their lives, and are encouraged to take that energy home with them to share with their friends and family. Teens also learn the difference between motivation and self-discipline. Motivation, being the act of doing what needs to be done when the student wants to do something as opposed to self-discipline, being when we do things that we necessarily don’t want to do.

By promoting an up-tempo “This Is It” attitude, students at SuperCamp learn to take the most out of every moment and celebrate their efforts despite the outcomes. Students learn how to acknowledge themselves and others and build self-confidence through appreciation. The hidden value of SuperCamp derives from the shift students feel about themselves. When teens have a strong self-confidence they tend to do better in all areas of their life, academically, personally, professionally, and socially.

Across the US, SuperCamp’s academic summer camps are hosted on seven college campuses including Stanford University, Cornell University, and Wake Forest University. For additional information and enrollment, call 800-285-3276 or visit www.QLN.com.
