Andre Iguodala scored 29 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, Andre Miller added 24 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and Samuel Dalembert finished with 9 boards as the Philadelphia 76ers got a late bucket from Thaddeus Young to overcome a 36 point, 11 rebound night from Dwight Howard and beat the Orlando Magic 96-94 on Friday night to take a 2-1 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series.
Miller scored 10 points in the opening frame as the 76ers grabbed a 27-21 lead at the end of one and they extended that advantage to 38-27 five minutes into the second quarter as the Magic struggled with turnovers and fouls. Philly pushed their lead to as many as 13 in the second before settling for a 60-49 advantage at the break.
Philadelphia opened the third on a 12-6 spurt to jump in front 72-55 and it looked like they had the Magic on the ropes but a 17-2 run by Orlando brought them to within 76-74 but the Sixers wouldn’t allow them to pull even and led 80-77 at the end of the frame. Philly held a three point lead up until Rashard Lewis buried a triple with 6:00 on the clock to even the score at 86-86 and it was a new game. The Sixers rattled off the next six points to build a 92-86 lead and Philly stayed in front until Howard sank a pair of free-throws with 6 seconds on the clock to tie the game at 94-94. Philly showed no signs of wanting to go to overtime though and when Thaddeus Young got the ball deep in the paint he muscled his way up for the game-winning layup and the Sixers had the 2-1 series lead.
