Learn About The Earned Income Tax Credit on The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television

The IRS Explains the Criteria

BrandStar Entertainment's The Balancing Act on Lifetime television is explaining a tax credit that could put cash in their viewers’ pockets. Twenty to twenty-five percent of those eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit never claim it.  Why? Most don’t know about it!  To help viewers get all the money they deserve, the morning show has invited David Williams, the IRS’s Director of Electronic Tax Administration and Refundable Credits to The Balancing Act  TV Show to explain who is eligible along with other great tax time advice.  View the segment at www.thebalancingact.com/irs.

The EITC is The Earned Income Tax Credit and it is a tax break for people who work, but don’t make a lot of money,” stated Williams.  “If your earned annual income was $41,646 or less you may be eligible.”

To qualify for EITC:

You must have been employed in 2008. Retirees are NOT eligible.

You must be a U.S. citizen or have a valid Social Security number.

If you meet these criteria, you could be eligible for up to hundreds of dollars in refunds!  To learn more visit www.irs.gov/eitc.

If you have further questions or need some personal help with your filing, consider visiting a volunteer tax assistance site. There are more than 12,000 locations nationwide, and probably one right in your community, where IRS-trained volunteers will determine your E-I-T-C eligibility and prepare your tax return free. To locate a volunteer site, call your community’s 2-1-1 or 3-1-1 number for local services.  Help is also available at your local IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center. You can locate the nearest Taxpayer Assistance Center in the blue pages of your telephone directory.

With the April 15th tax deadline looming, what is the best way to file your taxes? Williams strongly encourages e-filing to make sure the IRS receives your return.

“Keep in mind, all taxpayers, no matter their income, are eligible to use Free File Fillable Forms to complete and e-file their federal tax returns for free,” he says “Visit IRS.gov and go to the “Free File” page to access the Free File Fillable Forms”.

“In these economic times it is important that we educate our viewers about all the benefits they may be entitled to,” says Doug Campbell, Executive VP of Programming for BrandStar Entertainment, the producers of The Balancing Act TV Show. “We so appreciate the IRS visiting our show and increasing our knowledge!”
