The field of amateur and professional golfers for the 2011 U.S. Putting Tour's inaugural national championship is growing daily and space availability on the most popular days and times for Round 1 play is running low, USPT management announced today.
The tournament format allows participants to select the day during the first six days of Championship Week, September 26 - October 2, to play their first round. Round 1 consists of 72 holes of putting, which takes place on the 12-hole putting layout on the primary practice putting green at the host course, The Crossings, located in Carlsbad, California.
On each of these Round 1 days, golfers can choose from among three start times: 8:30 a.m., noon and 3:30 p.m. "The Saturday times are filling up fast," said USPT president, Jim Hartley. "And Friday isn't far behind."
Hartley encourages all golfers interested in competing in the USPT Championship to enter soon, while their first choice of Round 1 times remains open. If a golfer's first choice is full, Hartley said the USPT will contact the golfer to arrange an alternative day and time.
The tournament is gaining a great deal of interest because of the $10,000 guaranteed first prize and the fact that the winning professional also gets a spot in a 2012 World Putting Tour Championships tournament that features a $100,000 cash prize to the winner.
Amateur golfers in the USPT Championship will compete for merchandise prizes from
Ashdon Golf, the tournament's presenting sponsor. The winner of the
putting championship, whether an amateur or professional, will win the beautiful crystal USPT Championship trophy and the title of America's Best Putter.
The golf tournament is open to all golfers who are at least 13 years old as of September 26, 2011. Men and women, amateurs and professionals will compete together.
Golfers can enter the
putting tournament at the USPT website. More information is available at the site and by emailing info@usputtingtour.com.
