The Detroit Lions selected Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Matthew Stafford with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft on Saturday.
After an 0-16 record in 2008 the Detroit Lions are hoping that Stafford will be the face of the franchise. The Lions struck a six-year, $78 million deal with the quarterback on Friday night.
The Lions selected offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus with their first pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.
