Funeral services for a Missouri high school baseball player who was killed by a wild pitch will be held on Tuesday.
Patrick Clegg, 16, was at the plate hitting for his Waynesville High School team last Tuesday when he was struck just below the helmet as he turned from a wild pitch delivered by a Lebanon High School hurler. Clegg collapsed and was rushed to a hospital but by Thursday he was declared brain dead.
Clegg’s father Mike Clegg, who had just returned from an eight-month tour in Iraq, reached out to the opposing pitcher and voiced his support, calling the accident an “absolute aberration” and said he should not blame himself.
On Friday Clegg was taken off a respirator and his organs were donated.
Services for Clegg will be held at the Waynesville High School gymnasium on Tuesday beginning with a visitation at 11:30 a.m. with services to follow at 2:00 p.m.
