Ex-drug Addict Speaks About Her Long-term, Stable Recovery

Narconon Freedom Center helps achieve successful rehabilitation.

Nicole Smith* began using drugs when she was 12 years old. She started with marijuana and alcohol and then moved on to cocaine, Valium and Darvon. Through the years her addiction got worse and worse until Nicole found herself with a devastating crack-cocaine and heroin habit and had turned to prostituting on the streets of Detroit to feed her drug addiction.

“That was my everyday life,” said Nicole, “I had guns held to my head, I was raped and homeless. My family looked for me in morgues for two years.” When winter came Nicole had to leave Detroit as she faced freezing to death in the cold weather. She hitchhiked to Jacksonville, Florida where she was picked up by truckers who she prostituted for to get more crack-cocaine and heroin.

“One day a trucker picked me up,” said Nicole, “and said boy are you going to be glad you met me.” The man drove Nicole to her mother’s house. She was withdrawing from drugs and was trying to find any way to get more crack-cocaine and heroin. The trucker that picked her up would not get her more drugs as she had developed a bacterial infection in her arm from shooting up called MERSA and needed to have her arm amputated.

Nicole had to get help right away and was taken, by the trucker, to the Narconon Freedom Drug Rehab program. “He flew me there and helped me get into the program,” said Nicole. “When I got to Freedom Center the staff helped take care of my arm and used special processes called assists to help it heal.”

From there Nicole started on the Narconon drug rehabilitation program and within a few days realized that she had found something that was going to work for the first time in her life. “When I was on the Narconon program I saw how everything worked together and helped me in my everyday life. It all worked together and in sequence.”

Today Nicole has long-term sobriety. She has been stably drug-free for 6 years. She is happily married with children. Nicole acknowledges Freedom Treatment Center for their help as well as the founder of the Narconon technology, American Author and Humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. “This technology gave me my life back, says Nicole. “ I have what I was always searching for that I could never find. I now have the happiness, and knowledge that I am able to do anything I want to do and I can win at life.”

Nicole’s message for others out there struggling with addiction is simple, “Don’t lose hope”, she says. “No matter how many other things you have tried – this works. I am living breathing proof that this works.” The Narconon program has achieved a success rate of more than 70% for permanent sobriety for the last 44 years.
